Transfer

Overview

A transfer is a formal handover of a card from one user to another. The sender initiates the transfer and chooses which private vault sections to pass along; the recipient must actively accept before ownership changes. When accepted, the original card becomes the recipient's property and is set to private; the sender retains a private copy containing the optional vault sections they chose to include. Provenance, exhibition, and literature records always travel with the card. A pending transfer can be cancelled by either party.

Business Rules

Initiating a transfer:

  1. Any card owner can initiate a transfer to another user by selecting a recipient and choosing which optional vault sections to include.
  2. Provenance, exhibition, and literature records always travel with the card; they are not part of the sender's optional selection.
  3. The card is locked as soon as a transfer is initiated. While a transfer is pending, the card cannot be edited, shared, chained, or transferred again.

Accepting a transfer:

  1. Only the intended recipient can accept the transfer.
  2. On acceptance, the original card passes to the recipient and is set to private.
  3. A private copy of the card is created for the sender, containing the optional vault sections the sender chose to include. This copy holds a reference to the original card.
  4. Vault sections the sender did not include are removed from the original before it passes to the recipient.
  5. Categories, calendar events, and contacts are never carried over to the recipient, regardless of the sender's choices.
  6. The card's social post transfers to the recipient along with the card.
  7. Any active chain delegations on the card are revoked when the transfer completes.
  8. Any direct shares involving the card between the two users are revoked when the transfer completes.
  9. When a card with an active NFT is transferred, the NFT is transferred to the recipient's wallet as part of the same operation — see NFT & Blockchain.

Cancelling a transfer:

  1. Either the sender or the recipient can cancel a pending transfer at any time before it is accepted.
  2. Cancelling a transfer unlocks the card and returns it to the sender unchanged.
