Overview
A category is a user-defined tag that helps owners organize their cards into personal collections or groups. An owner might create categories like "On loan", "For sale", "Storage", "Favorites", or anything else that suits their personal workflow. Categories are entirely personal — each user manages their own and they are not shared between users.
Categories are visible on both the front card and the back card.
Fields
| Field | What it represents |
|---|---|
| Name | The label for this category — the tag the owner sees and applies |
| Description | An optional explanation of what this category is used for |
| Owner | The user who created this category (categories belong to the user, not the card) |
Business Rules
Categories belong to the user who created them — not to any individual card. The same category can be applied to many cards.
A card can belong to multiple categories at the same time.
Categories are visible to other users on the front card — they are part of the public card view. The category name appears on the card when shared.
CRUD operations for categories (creating, renaming, deleting categories; adding or removing them from a card) are available in both the front card view and the back card view.
Deleting a category removes it from all cards it was applied to.
Constraints
- A category created by one user cannot be seen or used by another user.
- There is no system-level limit on the number of categories a user can create or apply to a card.
