Overview
A location record captures where the artwork physically was at a given point in time. Multiple entries build a movement history — useful for insurance purposes, logistics, loan tracking, and provenance documentation. Unlike provenance (which tracks ownership), location tracks physical whereabouts regardless of who held legal title.
Location records are part of the back card (vault). They are private to the owner and never exposed publicly.
Fields
| Field | What it represents |
|---|---|
| Place | A textual description of the location — storage facility, address, city, country, etc. |
| Coordinates | GPS coordinates or a structured address for precise positioning |
| Date | When the artwork was at this location |
Business Rules
Location records are private — only the current owner can see and manage them.
Multiple location entries can exist on a single card, forming a chronological movement history.
Location history is not included in a transfer by default. The sender may explicitly opt in to share it. See Transfer.
Constraints
- Location data is never included in public or social feed queries.
- There is no limit on the number of location entries a card can have.
